Mandy Harvey is an artist who, to this day, is deaf but still is a talented singer. She isn’t just an average singer either. She proved herself to be capable and passionate about her music.

Harvey is an American pop, jazz, and ukulele-using artist. Unfortunately, though since she became 18, she has faced the profound challenge of facing an illness that caused deafness.

Early Life of the Artist

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Jan. 2, 1988, Harvey struggled with her sense of hearing at a young age. She had to take multiple surgeries in an attempt to fix the problems.

When Harvey was younger, she and her family moved to Colorado. From there, she began to advance her skills in the field of music throughout her childhood through high school, which she graduated from in 2006. Since age 4, she’s been getting experience in music which shows her persistence and dedication.

That same year, though, she started losing her hearing again to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. It is a connective-tissue disorder that caused her hearing loss to the point where she became entirely deaf in 2007. That caused her to leave her vocal music education class at Colorado State University and the whole university together.

That was a devastating event; she gave up on the music career she started when she was four.

Career

Harvey had much experience with singing since she was four and was able to retain her talent. Harvey quit her pursuit of music in 2007 due to losing her hearing. However, she could sing correctly again with the help of visual tuners.

At Jay’s Bistro in Colorado, she started to try and perform there when she met jazz pianist Mark Sloniker. Harvey also started performing at Dazzle Jazz Lounge in Denver, and later she created three jazz albums. In 2011, she received VSA’s International Young Soloist Award.

A significant milestone in her career was in 2017 when Harvey went to audition on season 12 of America’s Got Talent. Simon Cowell gave her the Golden Buzzer for the song she sang during her performance, “Try.” The music was exceptional in quality, vocals, and catchy lyrics.

The song was about her not living how she wanted to, not being able to have the same condition as everyone else but still trying. Ultimately she won fourth place in the entire season 12 of America’s Got Talent! She has also created a movie called “The Rebound.”
